Net Bare Necessities

I’ve been travelling on the Oregon coast this week. Mist, overcast skies, and angry oceans – great – but really bad news: spotty 3G coverage.

Internet connectivity is one of those bare necessities that permit me to work from anywhere and to respond to my client’s needs while I’m away. If I don’t have the ‘Net, then it’s difficult for me to get away. Even the place I’m staying at doesn’t have ‘Net connectivity. Big disappointment. And I think others feel the same: we’re crammed into this cafe that has wifi in Rockaway Beach. The place is closing in five minutes and we’re all scrambling to get our work done.

Amazing how customer volume increases if a restaurant, store, hotel, or even a street vendor makes it easy for their customers to connect? Connectivity is such a tiny investment that pays dividends in attracting consumers and making it easier for them to visit, say, the coast.

Lack of connectivity keeps me at home. More connectivity lets me travel. More connectivity = more customers.

Spread the word. I think more people need to get on board with what this cafe (The Whale Spout) is doing in Rockaway Beach, and explains why they can afford to close mid-afternoon Sunday. That said, I gotta go.
