How to Restore a Google Apps User

Under Google Apps, if a user is suspended by administrator intervention, they can be Restored through the user’s dialog under the Admin Panel.

However, if the suspension is because the user account is suspected of violating Google’s Terms of Service, then the Restore link will not appear.

Especially for those with the Standard Edition of Google Apps, the next step to put a user into a Restored state is a bit of a mystery.

Here’s what you need to do.

IN THIS ORDER:

1. Change the password for this account on the Google Apps Admin Panel.
2. ALSO MARK that the user has to change the password when he/she logs in.
3. Confirm/save this update to the user account.
4. Log out of Google Apps. This is important.
5. Run Release Captcha: https://www.google.com/a/your-domain/ReleaseCaptcha
6. Follow the login steps to login with the suspended account. You will be challenged to provide yet another new password.
7. Once you change the password, the account will be re-enabled, you should be OK!

You should now be able to log out as the user and login as Admin, and administer the user as normal.
