Just an update for 2011. "Google Email Uploader" is already retired. Look for "Google Apps Migration" instead. However, "Google App Sync" already has a import feature which perform the similar function. Anyway, if the old PST will not be actively used, just add it as a new datafile. Importing it into Google Apps will just eat up your storage and increase your setup time.

Dear Russell-

I think you saved me a lot of time with this writtin procedure - thank you for taking the time to document it! I am considering a move from a stand-alone outlook.pst file which "gathers" my multiple business addresses into one place(which has worked fine for a few years), to a Google App Premier account which would better facilitate access from hotel rooms and my new iPhone. It is much appreciated...

This works great if you're using Google Apps Premier. If you're using Google Apps Standard Edition you're out of luck, as this feature is not available. I moved to Google Apps Standard Edition a while back and used a SaaS called Yippiemove (http://www.yippiemove.com) to migrate my emails and it worked like a charm. It costs $14.95 per account, but it's cheaper than paying $50/user/year for a Premier account.
