Explorer/Browser Failure After WindowsUpdate

In the last two days, I’ve serviced three clients with the exact problem: they recently applied updates that Windows said was ready for them, and now they’re unable to use the browser. An address (URL) they type into Internet Explorer won’t go anywhere. Further, there’s problems accessing shares or MyDocuments through Explorer.

This has to do with MS06-015 security patch that was applied in conjunction with an HP software tool; the Q-Article can be found here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165). The symptoms are severe but the solution is very simple – a regsitry modification and a restart corrects the issue.

I image I’ll see more of this as the week progresses; this article was just released four days ago.
